Hailing from an enlightened family of Varanasi now settled in Lucknow, dedicated to the art of music Abhijit Roychoudhury is one of the foremost Sarod artist of the country. He started his journey along with the classical tract at the age of only eight years under the guidance of his father late Dr. Uma Shankar Roychoudhury and Pt. Bholanath Bhattacharya of Lucknow(AIR) who was a disciple of Ustad Amir Khan (Sarodia) of Kolkata and Ustad Allauddin Khan of Maihar and a close colleague, friend and Guru bhai of Sarod maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Abhijit's style of playing Sarod is clearly distinguished by the amount of emotional depth in his music. He is the demonstrator of the both the styles of Sarod art production i.e. Gatkari & Gayaki Ang. He has full control over taan & gamak and jumps to the risky note's combination thus trying to achieve the impossible. He has been appraised several times for his unique thok-jhala presentation. His systematic development of raga with aesthetic approach has been the main specialty of his recita's.
Abhijit is a Post Graduate (in AH&Dairying) from Banaras Hindu University and working as Senior Technical Expert(AH&DD) in Diversified Agriculture Support Project on deputation from PCDF. In PCDF he worked as Manager(P&I), Incharge SPPM Aligarh and Manager Cattle Feed Factory Varanasi which is running in profit. In the field of music Abhijit did Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad and Sangeet Bhaskar from Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. He is a B-high grade artist of A.I.R. & T.V. He has received a number of honours like Sur-Mani from Sur-Singar Samsad, Mumbai and was selected in the I.C.C.R's panel of artistes in 1992. He is also among the jury of UP Sangeet Natak Academy music competition.Besides several successful performances in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna,Dhanbad,Varanasi, Allahabad, Agra, Vrindavan Dhrupad Samaroh, Burhanpur (MP),Datia (MP),Jhansi, Chandigarh and several other cities in India, he has also toured to four European countries viz. Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and Belgium sponsored by I.C.C.R in the year 2003 and in the year 2011 he toured to Philippines to participate in 3rd Rondalla International Strings Instrument Festival where he performed in Tagum city, Davao & Manila.

Late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, San Anselmo, CA (USA):- Abhijit Roychoudhury S/O Dr. Uma Shankar Roychoudhury is a disciple of my friend Sri. B.N. Bhattacharya. Knowing his guru, I believe his student would have a clear conception of Hindustani Ragas and knowledge of traditional ways of developing them.
Sri B.C. Sharma, First Sec. (Edu.& Culture) Embassy of India, Brussels (Belgium):- A 3- member Sarod troupe, led by eminent Sarod artist Sri Abhijit Roychoudhury visited Belgium from March 26-28, 2003. During there visit to Belgium, the troupe gave two enchanting concerts - one at theChancery Auditorium of the Embassy of India, Brussels and the other at Hall A, University Libre de Bruxelles (University of Brussels) 1050 Brussels. All of the programmes given by the troupe were very well attended. The performances were greatly appreciated by the audiences in all the places and a lot of goodwill has been generated by the visit of the troupe.

Govt. of India sponsored the eminent Sarod group of Abhijit Roychoudhury(sarod player)……During their visit to the Philippines the group had performed various places in Tagum City and Manila including the cultural center of Philippines(CCP). The group’s performances and lecture-cum-demonstration was well attended and appreciated by the local musicians and audiences as well.
