Prof. (Dr.) Lovely Sharma

First Sitarist lady D.Litt. (2007), she is born on 16 November of 1960. First woman who has treated Prisoners of life imprisonment in the jails by Indian classical music & given maximum Music workshops in the Indian Jails. She is M.A. in Sitar (Gold Medalist) Agra University, Agra, Ph.D.  from M.S. University, Baroda & D.Litt of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar University, Agra. 

Artist of All India Radio, New Delhi and Television, Empanelled artiste I.C.C.R (under ministry of External Affairs) Govt. of India. Principal Investigator of major research Project on music therapy -“Effect of music on Psycho-Social Stress of Prisoners” which is first of its kind in the World (Treated Prisoners of life imprisonment under section IPC 302). Executive member and Expert of 50 Government and non .Govt. bodies of India & Abroad. Professor, Dept. of music, Dayalbagh University, Agra

Conducted more than 250 music therapy workshops in the Jails (U.P. & Calcutta) & more than 300 music workshops in remote area Schools, Inter colleges of Agra & Firozabad, Sur kuti (Center for Blind Students) & Center for Physically challenged Students to promote Indian classical music as well as to heal by music therapy. Took initiative to bring little children of “Nagla Baghel” and other remote villages to come to school under Literacy mission Project. Reading & writing materials have been distributed to these under privileged children’s.

 Editor of many National & International Conference journals on Indian Music.

Participated in Vintage Car rally in 2005 at Dehradoon. First lady to drive car for more than 400 k.m. independently in this competition. Can drive cars, Scooters, Motorcycle & Bicycle perfectly. Worked as a programmed officer of National Social Service (N.S.S) for 3 years(1987-1990). During this period, she organized many Social, Women welfare, Child welfare and Cultural programmes under the N.S.S. in the villages of Dayalbagh.

Published Seven Books on Indian Music-1. Rajasthani lok geeton ki Sastriyata, 2. Western Musicologist on Hindustani Music, 3. Glimpses on Indian Musicology, 4. An exploration on Indian Music, 5. Centres for the Promotion of Indian Music, 6. Academic Centres for the Promotion of Indian Music, 7. Music Therapy Today.

She is an external expert of around 50 Indian universities apart from UGC, Delhi and RPSC, Rajasthan. She also organizes frequent national and international workshops on Indian Classical  music  in  various  parts  of  India  to promote Indian Classical music.

Her unique project work entitled “Effect of Music on prisoners” throws light on her character to accept challenges and to contribute to social welfare.

            The welfare of the Prisoners and their rehabilitation in the society, she has submitted a detail Major Research Project to the Govt. of India through the University Grants Commission. Recently Central jail, Agra participated in Jail Diwas at Lucknow in the presence of Honbl. Maya Vati, Chief Minister of UP & got 1st position, was guided by me & donated Many valuable instruments, was required by them. Also working tirelessly for the enlistment of Blind children’s, mentally retarded children’s and villagers of below poverty line, through various music & Literacy workshops on National and International level. Music being a universal language I am working for the universal brotherhood and Social welfare of the mankind as a whole irrespective of caste, creed and nation.

Not only in music,I have also won, first prize consecutively for two years in fancy shows at City level. First prize in Kavita Antakshni competition. She won prizes in Shlok Gayan competition and apparatus designing competition(Organised by the Psycology Department)at college level

Won prize in 1500 m race at city level. She was a member of volleyball, kho-kho and kabaddi teams of our college.

Giving free music education to the people below poverty line. Contributing towards Social Reforms through upliftment of     neglected Girl child.
